I can count to 20

On Friday, we wrote down numbers 1-20 on a piece of paper and cut out shapes using our favourite colours and stuck the correct number of squares, stars, or circles, beside the number. Here are some pictures!

 

 

 

 

This week in school

We are really focusing on continuing numbers 1-20. A great song to listen to at home on youtube is I can count to 20. The children really enjoy singing along to this song and for many of them it has helped them to count.

This week the Green Class have started Unit 5: Clothes in the My Little Island 3 book. For many of the children, this units vocabulary is a review of last year so I will be focusing on teaching phrases in order to communicate better. This week many of the children can ask questions such as “What is he wearing?” and answer with: “A blue and yellow hat”. I also want to teach them he, her, him, and she, so that they can ask the appropriate questions.

For our PYP, we are beginning our new unit on water. Our first line of inquiry will focus on the water sources in the world.

Yesterday, the children learned about different buildings in their city and they worked in teams to make a small "my town". Many of them included a hospital, shop, police station, fire station, cars, houses, people, and animals. Here are some pictures:

 

 

 

 

 

This week in school

This week in the Green Class we are learning about different buildings in our community: post office, hospital, police station, fire station, shop, house, and school. I had the children come up to the smart board one at a time and complete the activity, for example:

 

"Draw a circle around the red car."

"Draw a triangle around the playground"

"Find 5 trees"

"Which building are the doctors in?"

Here is a quick overview of what the Green Class will learn in the month of December.

 

 

English Book Chapter 3: Workers

This week the Green Class have been learning about different kinds of jobs: doctor, dentist, police officer, fire fighter, teacher, astronaut, builder (PYP unit on houses), and artist. The children each drew a picture and told me what they wanted to be when they are older. Many of them can say "I want to be a ..."

 

The children also worked in small groups to create posters representing what each job does. Here are some pictures:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PYP unit 2: Houses

This week the Green class spent a lot of time learning about the PYP unit on houses. We made Teepee’s and learned where they come from and who lived in them. We also made igloos and talked about where they are built. We also studied the story Little Red Riding Hood. The children then completed an exercise where they had to decide if an animal or person was in the story or not. We also learned prepositions this week: on, under, in front of, and behind. The homework this week focuses on learning these prepositions.

In the English book we are now on chapter 3, learning about workers: doctor, police officer, fireman, astronaut, artist, and dentist. The children have only started to study this vocabulary and unit so homework next week will include this vocabulary.

What do you like?

We are doing a review from last year of "I like" and "I don't like". For the children that know this, they will learn new vocabulary and how to ask "what do you like?".

Alphabet practice

The children have been learning a lot about the alphabet this week. We have practiced pronouncing the letters and sounding out words ex. A "ah ah apple". On youtube, there are good phonics ABC videos such as this one:

For homework this weekend, the children will be practicing vocabulary words and the alphabet from letters A-E.

Painting things I like

Yesterday, the green class learned I like. The children then painted things they like. For the children who remembered I like from last year, they expanded their vocabulary and painted foods they liked. Here are some pictures:

Welcome back!

Welcome back to school!

This year we will be using the same class blog. I have updated some of the vocabulary and phrases we will focus on this year. I have also created a monthly plan for September, where we will spend 2 weeks reviewing most of the topics we learned about last year. At the beginning of October we will start our first PYP unit, Our Relationships, and we will begin our new English book: My Little Island 3.

What are the green class learning this week?

 

We are focusing on learning about the house- bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living room. We will also learn about items inside the house.

 

We are learning about different types of food that we eat at school as well. The children learned about soup, rice, and breakfast foods.

Today in class

Today in school we are learning about clothes. The children are able to identify what they are wearing and tell me what colour each item is. They also started to tell me who is wearing what, for example: "Who is wearing a dress?" "Nisanur is".

The children have previously learned hat, shoes, t-shirt and coat.

 

Today we talked about dress, socks, and trousers.
